"The Soul of a Lazy Man Desires, and Has Nothing;

But the Soul of the Diligent Shall Be Made Rich..."

Sloth isn't a word people use very often today. We typically describe someone as "lazy" or a "slacker."

In a nutshell, these words describe someone who doesn't give their all to something. We're slothful when we don't give our all on a project or task.

We hold back for a variety of reasons, most of which tend to be petty.

When we accept a job, we accept that our focus becomes helping the company accomplish its goals. Certainly companies benefit from helping staff members to grow, but the company's goal is to make money for the company's owners.

We may feel justified in holding back and not giving our all. We come up with excuses to rationalize our behavior. But by not giving 100% of our efforts we're also insulting God.

He gave us those skills and talents. By not performing to the best of our ability, we're telling Him that we don't value what He's given us.

If you're genuinely miserable at work, then you have the power to make yourself happy. You can leave. If you're not willing to do that, or feel you're not able to leave, then you've got to do the emotional work necessary to allow yourself to give your employer your best effort.

We're also slothful in our relationship with God. We don't give Him all of our attention. We make excuses for our behavior..."I'm busy"..."I don't read the Bible because I don't understand the language"..."I don't see how the Bible applies in my life"...

He is supposed to be the center of our lives; and yet, we allow so many other issues prevent us from making Him the focal point we should.
